The core building of the former Stachelburg Castle, as well as a small farm, are located on a small hill to the immediate south-west of Josefinum. The surrounding terrain slopes downward to the north and comprises extensive meadows, some accessways and a dense forest, creating a natural sound barrier to the motorway in the north.

The building, shaped like an upside-down ‘T’, faces south-west, flooding virtually all rooms on all floors with natural light. Immediately behind the building, and angled slightly away from the sun, there is a roughly 100 m²-sized chapel-like hall, which was initially used as a prayer room, then as a workshop.
Expansive Gothic lancet windows at each side lend the room a church-like atmosphere.
